THE TIME TO ENGAGE THE YOUTHS IN NOW OR NEVER!
A Great Opportunity for Delta Youths is here!
ECOWAS Commission is partnering with some State Government to Train Youths in Fish Production Business at the Fisheries and Aquaculture Value Chain Development Partnership.
This ECOWAS sponsored Youth Training on Table Fish Production business is very key for Delta State, i urge his Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevweri the executive Governor of Delta State to cease this opportunity to engage also on the programme to boost his M.O.R.E agenda for Deltans. This will unequivocally stream line the dividend of democracy in his administration and put a high premium on human capital and economic development centered on the youths which he quest for.
In line with the above, Delta State can set a target to locally produce minimum of 60,000 metric tons of Table Fish per annum to achieve self food sufficiency.
*Human Capital development* is a key component in actualizing this objective hence the need to explore every possible avenue to bring in partners to make our Delta a wonderfull place to be.
The analytical review of the contribution of national fisheries and aquaculture policies and strategies to the food and nutritional security of the populations of the 15 ECOWAS Member States.
The ECOWAS
With an annual production of more than 3 million metric tons, the marine and coastal waters of West Africa are rich in fishery resources thanks to upwelling phenomena (upwelling of cold water rich in nutrients to the surface) and the presence of two of the largest marine ecosystems among the most productive in the world: the Large Marine Ecosystems of the Canary Current and the Guinea Current. The region also benefits from a dense hydrographic network conducive to the development of sustainable aquaculture. The sector plays an important socio-economic role for ECOWAS member countries as a contributor to the national GDPs, and as a source of employment for more than 9 million people in the region, and ensures the food and nutrition security of the countries’ populations with an average consumption of 14kg/year/person.
Together we can make Delta State a wonderfull place to be.
